Understanding Cross Currency Swaps

A Currency Swap is the best way to fully hedge a loan transaction as the terms can be structured to exactly mirror the underlying loan. It is also flexible in that it can be structured to fully hedge a fixed rate loan with a combined currency and interest rate hedge via a fixed floating cross currency swap. In a non-deliverable swap (NDS) there is no physical exchange of the two currency flows.

Australian CBDC Pilot for Digital Finance Innovation

whitePaper | September 26, 2022

The RBA is Australia’s central bank. Its duty is to contribute to the stability of the currency, full employment and the prosperity and welfare of the Australian people. It does this by conducting monetary policy to meet an agreed inflation target, works to maintain a stable financial system, acts as banker to the Australian Government, regulates the payments system and issues the nation’s currency. Over the past few years, the RBA has been exploring whether there is a role for a CBDC in Australia in the context of the RBA’s responsibilities for issuing the currency and overseeing the development of the payments system. The RBA is an industry partner of the DFCRC, and is using its involvement to support its research on CBDC.

Bank Accounting Advisory Series

whitePaper | August 1, 2022

The Office of the Chief Accountant (OCA) is pleased to present the August 2022 edition of the Bank Accounting Advisory Series (BAAS). The BAAS expresses the OCA’s interpretations of accounting topics relevant to national banks and federal savings associations (collectively, banks or institutions, unless otherwise specified). We hope that you find this publication useful and that it continues to be a practical resource for bankers and examiners. The BAAS is updated annually to address ongoing accounting questions, newly issued and updated accounting standards, and emerging issues observed through March 31. Consistent with prior editions of the BAAS, the 2022 update does not focus on questions related to the impact of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and does not reflect policy statements and rules issued in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 policy statements and rules address specific challenges and are not intended to be used by analogy in non-COVID-19 situations.

Private equity secondaries investing

whitePaper | April 7, 2022

Private equity is an important source of capital for startups, young companies, firms in financial distress and companies that are seeking growth or buyout capital. As opposed to many other investment styles, private equity is an inherently activist asset class whereby the fund managers often exert significant influence over the underlying investments. Thus, investors in the asset class not only benefit from gaining exposure to otherwise inaccessible, unquoted/privately owned companies, but also from the skill-sets that fund managers bring to bear to improve a company’s long-term value.
