In all blockchains, transactions are bundled in blocks, which are cryptographically interlinked. Due to this, the manipulation of a certain block is visible in every block that is created on top of this block. Additionally, the blockchain is stored on the computers of a large number of network participants, so manipulation is made even harder due to the sheer number of copies of the ledger. Since the advent of Bitcoin, blockchain technology has rapidly progressed, and today hundreds of functional crypto currencies exist. In fact, blockchains are today only a subset of “distributed ledger technologies”
