A bank is required to be licensed in terms of the Banking Act (CAP 46:04) in order to provide banking services. An applicant for a banking licence must be incorporated as a company limited by shares. Furthermore, the Bank of Botswana imposes other requirements, in relation to being a fit and proper recipient of a banking licence, which include, but are not limited to, compliance in relation to capital adequacy and the operating model.
